Kogi Central Group Denies Manipulation of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Recall Process
A coalition of Ebira indigenes from the five local government areas of Kogi Central has refuted claims that the ongoing recall process against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is politically motivated, insisting it reflects the genuine will of the people.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Kogi Central Elites Forum (KCEF), led by President Ibrahim Abdulazeez Ibrahim and Secretary Prince Akerejola Johnson, expressed their commitment to recalling the senator, whom they accuse of causing “embarrassment” to the district on an international scale.
The group dismissed allegations that the recall effort is being driven by political opponents, asserting that the people of Kogi Central are united in their pursuit.
“No one is sponsoring this recall. Our people are largely united on this cause. From the history of Ebiras, you know we cannot be deceived. Even those who once supported her on social media have distanced themselves. We cannot trade the integrity of our state and Nigeria for the selfish, juvenile tendencies of a senator,” the statement read.
The KCEF cited Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recent altercation over an assigned seat in the National Assembly as an example of what they called “reckless conduct” that has caused “unnecessary national embarrassment.”
Addressing reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) disclaimed involvement in the recall, the group clarified that the commission’s role only begins after the initial signature collection phase.
“INEC has no official role until after this signature collection phase. We, the petitioners, are handling the recall process at this stage. Once we meet the required threshold, we will submit it to INEC for verification,” the statement explained.
The group urged the public to disregard any narratives suggesting the process is being manipulated, reaffirming their resolve to proceed with the recall effort.
