The governor made the declaration on Monday while addressing reporters in Benin City, insisting that the panel’s summons lacked constitutional backing and was politically motivated.
Obaseki argued that the Assembly’s move was an attempt to undermine the authority of the executive arm of government, stressing that he would not participate in any process that violates due process or the principles of separation of powers.
He maintained that his administration remains focused on governance and the delivery of development projects across the state, adding that political distractions would not derail his agenda.
Members of the Edo State House of Assembly have yet to respond officially to the governor’s refusal, though some lawmakers have hinted that the Assembly may explore alternative legal steps to ensure compliance with its directives.
The development has intensified political tension in the state ahead of the forthcoming transition period.
