The presentation ceremony, held at the Government House in Benin City, marked a major milestone in the state’s implementation of the Group Life Insurance Scheme in partnership with Tangerine Life Insurance.
In his remarks, Governor Okpebholo said the initiative was driven by compassion and a commitment to support families who had suffered painful losses.
“It is not just about insurance. It is about goodness. The important thing is that you receive your entitlements because of the loss you have suffered,” he said.
“Today, we are supporting you further by giving scholarships to one member of each family. This is our way of ensuring you are not left behind.”
The governor commended Tangerine Life Insurance for their collaboration, noting that Edo State had emerged as one of the leading states in pension and insurance sector reforms.
Managing Director and CEO of Tangerine Life Insurance, Mr. Kehinde Borisade, hailed Okpebholo’s leadership, describing Edo State as a national model for pension reforms and workers’ welfare.
“In implementing the Pension and Insurance Acts, Edo State stands out as one of the leading states, if not the leading state,” Borisade said.
“Your Excellency has shown rare leadership by caring not only for active workers but also for the families of those who have passed on. Few states in Nigeria do this.”
He disclosed that Tangerine Life had paid benefits amounting to over ₦200 million to 47 families this year alone, made possible through the governor’s continued support.
