Pepper Seller’s Son Declares for Lagos Mainland Chairmanship

Amodu Shehu, son of a popular pepper seller at Oyingbo Market, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Chairmanship of Lagos Mainland Local Government in the upcoming council elections.

Shehu, who currently serves as the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward F Chairman, made his declaration on Friday, announcing that he had obtained the party’s nomination form with the support of community members.

An Information Technology expert with a strong background in finance, Shehu said he is entering the race to deliver effective and inclusive leadership to the people of Lagos Mainland.

“With my success story as the son of a pepper seller in a community filled with broken dreams and unfulfilled aspirations, I can boldly say that nobody understands our struggles better than I do. With your support, we can build a brighter future for the next generation,” he said.

At the event, Shehu pledged to prioritize education, healthcare, youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and economic growth. He emphasized that his experiences in the private and financial sectors would serve as valuable assets in his leadership.

“With deep love for our community and a fierce commitment to rapid progress, I am offering myself to serve as your next Local Government Chairman. I bring a wealth of experience from the private sector as an ICT expert and over a decade of work in a leading financial institution,” he said.

Shehu called on APC leaders, community development associations, and residents to back his vision for the council, promising to soon unveil a detailed development agenda.

Leaders from across the community voiced their support. Mama Iyabo, a respected market leader, described Shehu as a relatable candidate who deeply understands the community’s needs.

“Shehu is one of us. He grew up here, understands our markets, and knows the daily struggles we face. He is someone who can truly represent us,” she said.

Youth leader and Ward G Councillor, Biliaminu Saka, said Shehu’s ambition signals the readiness of young people to take up leadership roles.

“Shehu brings energy, fresh ideas, and has consistently engaged with the youth. We are excited about what he can accomplish,” Saka said.

Ward D Councillor, Ayodele Isiekwene, also praised Shehu’s grassroots appeal, noting the strong wave of support behind his candidacy.

“Amodu’s journey shows the people are ready for a leader who understands their priorities. He has earned their trust over the years,” Isiekwene said.
