The Speaker announced the mass defection during Friday’s plenary session, citing deepening division within the PDP as the reason behind their decision.
Amaewhule, who confirmed that he had formally informed his ward chairman about his move, declared that he was now a full member of the APC and had commenced the process of obtaining his party card.
“Distinguished colleagues, APC is my new party. I will do all that is needed to ensure that the All Progressives Congress issues my party card in no time,” he said.
He added, “As I speak today, I am a member of the All Progressives Congress. I am happy to join the APC so that we can support Mr President. Mr President is doing so much for this country.”
The Speaker praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, insisting that the President “means well for Nigeria” and has shown “love to Rivers State.”
The mass defection is expected to reshape the political structure of the Rivers State Assembly and intensify the already tense political environment in the state.
