In an exclusive interview with ARISE NEWS, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu personally rescinded his ministerial nomination, contrary to reports suggesting the National Assembly’s involvement.
Tinubu’s Change of Heart
El-Rufai recounted that after his tenure as governor, President Tinubu publicly urged him to join his cabinet. Despite initial reservations and personal plans, El-Rufai agreed under specific conditions. However, he later learned that President Tinubu had changed his mind about the appointment. “The president didn’t want me in his cabinet; he changed his mind,” El-Rufai stated. “Frankly, I don’t care, and I told him, and I moved on.”
Clarifying National Assembly’s Role
Addressing rumors about the National Assembly’s rejection of his nomination due to security concerns, El-Rufai dismissed these claims. He emphasized that his extensive public service record contradicts such allegations. “I’ve been in public life the last 25, 26 years. What is the security issue? Where is the report?” he questioned.
Current Stance
El-Rufai expressed no animosity toward President Tinubu or his administration. He highlighted his right, as a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to question the party’s current operations. “It is within my right to ask why is my party not functioning, and that’s all,” he remarked.
