The committee, chaired by financial expert Mr. Joseph Tegbe, is tasked with translating the recently passed Tax Acts into coordinated and practical actions across federal, state, and private sectors. Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, will provide ministerial oversight.

According to a statement from the Presidency on Thursday, the NTPIC will engage extensively with public- and private-sector stakeholders to ensure the reforms align with Nigeria’s economic goals and gain wide acceptance.

Tegbe, a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (FCIT), brings over 35 years of experience, including leadership at KPMG Africa. Other members include Ismaeel Ahmed, Rukaiya El-Rufai, and Mrs. Sanyade Okoli, who will serve as Secretary.

President Tinubu emphasised the importance of effective implementation, saying, “These new Tax Acts reflect our commitment to building a fair, transparent, and technology-driven tax system that supports economic growth while protecting the interests of citizens and businesses. The National Tax Policy Implementation Committee will ensure coherent, effective, and well-aligned implementation across all levels of government.”

The committee will prioritise nationwide consultations with professional bodies, the private sector, and subnational governments, alongside public awareness campaigns to enhance understanding and compliance.

It will also strengthen coordination among revenue collection agencies, regulatory bodies, and government institutions to ensure harmonised oversight, reduce revenue leakages, and enhance fiscal accountability.

Minister Edun described the committee’s establishment as a decisive step to reset Nigeria’s fiscal framework, saying it would bolster revenue mobilisation, reinforce economic growth, and ensure fiscal sustainability across the country.
