In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Ukoha, the governor said the property was sealed by the state’s Harmonised Task Force as part of a general enforcement of court orders and regulatory compliance.
He explained that the matter was brought to his attention by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, after which he immediately directed that the property be unsealed.
Governor Otti emphasised that the task force was simply carrying out its routine duties and cautioned political actors against attributing political motives to the exercise.
“The unsealing was promptly executed pending the regularisation of the building’s documentation. This enforcement was not politically motivated; rather, it was part of a general exercise targeting properties in default of statutory obligations,” the statement read.
According to the government, the owner of the property failed to respond to official demand notices requesting proof of payment for ground rent and other required charges, which necessitated the enforcement action.
