Wike, who addressed members of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) and the National Executive Council (NEC) at a meeting presided over by the Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, said he had been a committed member of the party since its formation and would not allow newcomers to “destroy” it.
“I have been in this party from the very beginning. I have sacrificed and contributed meaningfully to its growth,” he said.
“How can those who met me in my own house try to chase me out? I will never allow it.”
Wike questioned Bala Mohammed’s political history, urging the party to examine which platform supported Mohammed’s rise to the Senate.
He accused the governors of attempting to displace founding members and vowed that such moves would fail.
“People who just came in now think they can push out those who built the PDP. It will not happen—not now, not ever.”
The former Rivers State governor urged party stakeholders to remain strong, noting that those trying to tear the party apart were already on their way out.
Attendance and Calls for Unity
The meeting was attended by former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, former Deputy Speaker Uche Nwuche, National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and BoT members from across the country.
In his opening remarks, BoT Chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa called for unity and urged members to rise above personal interests. He also revealed ongoing efforts to set up caretaker committees in states where congresses had not been conducted.
Background: PDP Crisis Deepens
The PDP has been grappling with internal conflict since its defeat in the 2023 presidential election. Several key leaders—including governors of Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa—have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke resigned from the PDP but has not yet joined another party.
Last week, the Kabiru Turaki-led faction filed an application asking Justice Joyce Abdulmalik to step down from a case involving the party leadership, citing concerns of bias. The group also requested that the case be reassigned to another judge.
The deepening crisis continues to threaten the PDP’s stability ahead of future elections.
